Solutions for common issues in VariantLab.

Generation Issues

Image generation failed

Symptoms: Error message, generation doesn't complete

Solutions:

  1. Check your Mana balance - insufficient credits cause failures
  2. Try again - temporary API issues can cause failures
  3. Simplify your prompt if it's very complex
  4. Check your internet connection

Note: Failed generations are automatically refunded.

Generated image doesn't match prompt

Solutions:

  1. Be more specific in your prompt
  2. Include style keywords ("digital art", "flat illustration")
  3. Describe composition ("centered", "full body")
  4. Try regenerating - AI results vary

Image quality is low

Solutions:

  1. Use Gemini 3 Pro model for higher quality
  2. Increase resolution (Pro model supports up to 4K)
  3. Add quality keywords to prompt ("high detail", "sharp")

Detection Issues

Detection didn't find the trait

Solutions:

  1. Improve the detection prompt - be specific
  2. Check that the trait is visible in the image
  3. Run detection again - results can vary
  4. Create an empty mask and draw manually

Detection includes wrong areas

Solutions:

  1. Use the eraser tool to remove incorrect areas
  2. Write a more specific detection prompt
  3. Regenerate the mask

Mask edges are rough

Solutions:

  1. Zoom in and refine with brush/eraser
  2. Use smaller brush size for edges
  3. Take time on detailed edges

Variation Issues

Variation doesn't match style

Solutions:

  1. Include style in variation prompt: "red eyes, same digital art style"
  2. Be specific about maintaining consistency
  3. Regenerate and try different variants

Extracted layer has artifacts

Solutions:

  1. Check the mask - artifacts usually come from mask issues
  2. Refine mask edges in Detection
  3. Regenerate the variation

Variation changed too much

Solutions:

  1. Be more specific about what to change
  2. Mention what to keep: "only change the eye color"
  3. Try simpler modifications

Combination Issues

Layers are hiding each other

Cause: Incorrect layer order

Solution:

  1. Go to Detection page
  2. Check "Layer Order" section
  3. Arrange back-to-front (background first, foreground last)

Missing layers in combinations

Cause: Layers not favorited

Solution:

  1. Go to Variations page
  2. Click star on layers you want included
  3. Regenerate combinations

Combinations look wrong

Solutions:

  1. Check layer order (see above)
  2. Verify mask accuracy
  3. Preview individual layers
  4. Delete and regenerate combinations

Export Issues

Export is very slow

Cause: Large file count

Solutions:

  1. Wait - large exports take time
  2. Export in smaller batches
  3. Reduce combination count with limits

Downloaded ZIP is corrupted

Solutions:

  1. Try downloading again
  2. Use a different browser
  3. Check available disk space
  4. Contact support if persistent

Files have wrong names

Solution: Enable "Use display names" in export settings

Account Issues

Can't log in

Solutions:

  1. Check email/password are correct
  2. Use "Forgot Password" to reset
  3. Try a different browser
  4. Clear browser cache/cookies

Balance shows wrong amount

Solutions:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Check transaction history for recent operations
  3. Contact support if discrepancy persists

Purchase didn't add credits

Solutions:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Check transaction history
  3. Check email for receipt
  4. Contact support with transaction details

Browser Issues

Page won't load

Solutions:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Clear browser cache
  3. Try a different browser
  4. Check internet connection

Features not working

Solutions:

  1. Use a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
  2. Enable JavaScript
  3. Disable browser extensions that might interfere
  4. Clear cache and reload

Canvas is blank

Solutions:

  1. Wait for image to load
  2. Check that an image exists in the project
  3. Refresh the page
  4. Try a different browser
